Book Summary

This book is a special Tibetan story written by Rigzin Jigme Lingpa in the 1700s. It uses animals—mainly wolves, dogs, and a wise old hermit—to talk about deep ideas from Buddhism, like karma (the results of our actions), kindness, and the dangers of being cruel.

In the story, a wolf king and his followers enjoy power and pleasure, but their happiness is shallow because it comes from hurting others. After a fight, one wolf is badly hurt. He starts to feel sad and guilty about his actions. In his dream, he meets a wise hermit who tells him that causing suffering brings much more suffering in the future. The hermit explains that true happiness comes from caring for others and not harming anyone.

The story teaches that hurting others, even for pleasure or power, always brings pain—even to ourselves. Only when we act with kindness and compassion can we truly be happy and free. This book is easy to read for anyone who likes fables or wants to understand simple Buddhist ideas about how to live a good life.
